It started on Tuesday and continued through Thursday with just a little cleanup on Friday. Southern live deals had a range of $135 to $138.50, mostly $135 to $136, steady to $1 higher than the prior week's weighted averages. Northern dressed business had a rather large range of $224 to $232, mostly $225 to $227, steady to $2 higher than the previous week's weighted average basis Nebraska. According to Thursday's Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle Summary reports, the accumulated weekly average price totals were as follows (the prior week's weighted averages are listed in parentheses): KS $136.21($135.14); NE $227.55 ($225.10); TX $135.45($135.00); IA $229.04($226.43); CO $140.00 ($138.00) these Colorado sales were from a private source and not reported by the USDA due to confidentiality issues. The Friday Afternoon Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle report lists weekly trade volume totals as: KS 14,361; NE 30,489; TX 10,288; IA 28,820; CO not available due to confidentiality. Friday's slaughter totaled 115,000 head, 9,000 below the prior week, but even with a year ago. Saturday's kill was estimated at 39,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 651,000 head, 18,000 less than the previous week, but 7,000 above 2021. The weekly averages for boxed beef cutouts and boxed beef cuts: choice $267.58(-0.87), select $240.96(-1.79), with an average choice select spread of $26.62(+0.92), and a total load count including cuts, trimmings, and grinds of 579(+56). Changes from the prior week are listed in parentheses. For the week ending July 30, 2022, Imported Beef Passed for Entry in the U.S. totaled 46,243, 102.51% of the previous week and 104.75% of the 4-week average. DTN MORNING COMMENTS: The country is quiet this morning with buyers and sellers busy taking inventory. Bids and asking prices are yet to be established. Significant trade volume will likely be delayed until Tuesday and/or Wednesday. Beef cutouts are expected to be lower with generally light box movement.
