DTN Early Word Grains 10/23 06:00 The Commercial Buying Contagion in Grains December corn was 1 cent lower, November soybeans were 1 cent lower, and December Chicago wheat was 1 cent higher. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: December corn was 1 cent lower, November soybeans were 1 cent lower, and December Chicago wheat was 1 cent higher. CME Globex Recap: Grains were mostly lower early Friday with light pressure seen in world oilseed markets and corn, while wheat contracts posted small gains. The U.S. dollar index gave back only a small part of Thursday's impressive rally that was sparked by talk of more quantitative easing measures by the European Central Bank. Outside commodities also stabilized with both gold and crude oil posting quiet rallies. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 320.55 points higher Thursday at 17,489.16. The NASDAQ Composite was up 79.93 points at 4,920.05. DJIA futures were 85 points higher overnight. Asian markets were higher with the Nikkei up 389.43 points at 18,825.30 while China's Shanghai Composite was up 43.70 points (1.3%). European markets were also higher. The U.S. dollar index was down 0.047 at 96.331. Crude oil was $0.13 higher at $45.51 while Brent crude was $0.34 higher at $48.42. December gold was $5.30 higher at $1,171.40. Dalian soybean futures were higher while Malaysian palm oil futures were lower.
