DTN Closing Livestock Comment 12/04 15:51 Spot December Live Closes Defensive Week With New Contract Low The cattle complex closed sharply lower once again, pressured by beef demand concerns and listless packer demand for live cattle. Lean hog futures closed mixed with spot December generally losing ground to deferreds. By John Harrington DTN Livestock Analyst GENERAL COMMENTS: From Friday to Friday livestock futures scored the following Changes: Dec LC, Off $5.43; Feb LC, Off $2.80; Jan FC, Off $4.20; Mar FC, Off $4.72, Dec LH, Off $0.40 Feb LH, Up $0.78. The late-week cash trade was limited to scattered sales at steady/weak prices. A few dressed deals in the North ranged from $190 to $192. Several pens were reported in the South on a live basis at $124. According to the closing report, the Iowa hog base is .70 lower compared with the Prior Day settlement ($47.00-$53.00, weighted average $52.44). Corn futures closed up 4 1/2 cents in the March contract and up 4 3/4 cents in the July.
