DTN Early Word Grains 12/08 05:58 Grains Stunned Silent Overnight March corn was 1 cent higher, January soybeans were 1 cent higher, and March Chicago wheat was 3 cents higher. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: March corn was 1 cent higher, January soybeans were 1 cent higher, and March Chicago wheat was 3 cents higher. CME Globex Recap: Monday's sharp sell-off in grains left markets stunned into silence overnight. Corn posted a narrow 1-cent range while wheat traded 3 cents and soybeans almost 10 cents. Early Tuesday found the grain complex mostly lower on spillover selling and the U.S. dollar index posting another small gain. Energy markets were able to rebound slightly from Monday's collapse while gold remained under pressure. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 117.12 points lower Monday at 17,730.51. The NASDAQ Composite was down 40.46 points at 5,101.81. DJIA futures were 78 points lower overnight. Asian markets were lower with the Nikkei down 205.55 points at 19,492.60 and China's Shanghai Composite off 66.86 points (1.9%). European markets were also lower. The U.S. dollar index was up 0.048 at 98.703. Crude oil was $0.27 higher at $37.92 while Brent crude was $0.58 higher at $41.31. February gold was $4.00 lower at $1,071.20. Dalian soybean futures and Malaysian palm oil futures were both lower.
