DTN Early Word Grains 12/11 05:57 Grains Trying to Stay Off Oil's Slippery Slope March corn was fractionally lower, January soybeans were 3 cents higher, and March Chicago wheat was 2 cents lower. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: March corn was fractionally lower, January soybeans were 3 cents higher, and March Chicago wheat was 2 cents lower. CME Globex Recap: Crude oil continues to dominate global markets, with headlines talking of its slide pulling the DJIA lower again Friday. Overnight trade saw spot-month crude posting a new low for this downtrend while DJIA futures were off 143 points. Grains sat on the sidelines once again with corn and wheat lower while soybeans posted a small gain. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 82.45 points lower Thursday at 17,574.75. The NASDAQ Composite was up 22.30 points at 5,045.17. DJIA futures were 140 points lower overnight. Asian markets were mostly lower with the Nikkei up 189.93 points at 19,230.48 while China's Shanghai Composite was down 2.92 points. European markets were lower. The U.S. dollar index was down 0.117 at 97.822. Crude oil was $0.48 lower at $36.28 while Brent crude was $0.65 lower at $39.08. February gold was $8.20 lower at $1,063.80. Dalian soybean futures were lower and Malaysian palm oil futures were higher.
