By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: March corn was 1 cent lower, March soybeans were 1 cent lower, and March Chicago wheat was 2 cents lower. CME Globex Recap: Grains were lower early Thursday on light trade volume. Commodities in general have been on the defensive this week, though both gold and crude oil were higher overnight. The U.S. dollar index was showing a small loss, following through on Wednesday's sell-off from session highs late in the day. DJIA futures, as well as overseas equity markets, were under pressure once again. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 364.81 lower at 16,151.41, the NASDAQ Composite was down 159.86 points at 4,526.06, and the S&P 500 closed at 1,890.28, down 48.40 Wednesday. DJIA futures were 34 points lower overnight. Asian markets were mostly lower with the Nikkei down 476.68 points (2.7%) while China's Shanghai Composite rallied 58.05 points (2.0%). European markets were lower. The U.S. dollar index was down 0.234 at 98.699. Crude oil was $0.29 higher at $30.77 while Brent crude was $0.39 higher at $30.70. Both have traded below the $30 mark this week. February gold was $5.40 higher at $1,092.50. Dalian soybean futures were lower while Malaysian palm oil futures were mixed.
