DTN Early Word Grains 01/28 05:58 Grains Quiet Early Thursday March corn was fractionally lower, March soybeans were fractionally higher, and March Chicago wheat was 3 cents lower. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: March corn was fractionally lower, March soybeans were fractionally higher, and March Chicago wheat was 3 cents lower. CME Globex Recap: Grain markets were quiet again overnight with the sector showing small losses early Thursday morning. Outside markets were mostly higher, led by the energy sector. Gold posted a small rally while the U.S. dollar index posted a small sell-off. DJIA futures were higher, gaining back some of the losses seen after Wednesday's Federal Reserve announcement. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 222.77 lower at 15,944.46, the NASDAQ Composite was down 99.50 points at 4,468.17, and the S&P 500 fell 20.68 points to close at 1,882.95 Wednesday. DJIA futures were 49 points higher overnight. Asian markets were mixed with the Nikkei down 122.47 points (0.7%) and China's Shanghai Composite was 79.90 points (2.9%) lower. European markets were mostly lower with London's FTSE 100 down 25.20 points (0.4%). The U.S. dollar index was 0.072 lower at 98.830. Crude oil was up $0.30 at $32.60 while Brent crude rallied $0.57 to $33.67. February gold was $2.90 higher at $1,118.70. Dalian soybean and Malaysian palm oil futures were both lower.
