DTN Early Word Grains 02/01 05:57 Traders Selling to Start a Short Month March corn was 3 cents lower, March soybeans were 3 cents lower, and March Chicago wheat was 5 cents lower. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: March corn was 3 cents lower, March soybeans were 3 cents lower, and March Chicago wheat was 5 cents lower. CME Globex Recap: Commodities in general, as well as some financial markets, were under pressure as February got under way Sunday night into Monday morning. Grains were near overnight session lows while heavy selling was seen in some energy markets, most notably natural gas. The U.S. dollar index was down, as was DJIA futures. One of the few markets to post a gain was gold. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 396.66 points higher at 16,466.30, the NASDAQ Composite was up 107.27 points at 4,613.95, and the S&P 500 rallied 46.88 points to close at 1,940.24 Friday. DJIA futures were 52 points lower overnight. Asian markets were mixed with the Nikkei up 346.93 points (2.0%) while China's Shanghai Composite was 48.75 points (1.8%) lower. European markets were also mixed with London's FTSE 100 down 21.80 points (0.4%). The U.S. dollar index was 0.195 lower at 99.411. Crude oil was down $0.38 at $33.24 while Brent crude was off $0.04 to $35.95. April gold was $6.70 higher at $1,123.10. Dalian soybean futures were quietly higher.
