DTN Early Word Grains 02/03 05:57 Grains See Quiet Overnight Session March corn was fractionally higher, March soybeans were fractionally lower, and March Chicago wheat was fractionally higher. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: March corn was fractionally higher, March soybeans were fractionally lower, and March Chicago wheat was fractionally higher. CME Globex Recap: Corn and wheat were unchanged early Wednesday while soybeans traded lower. Outside commodities were mostly higher with crude oil, distillates, and metals posting gains while RBOB gasoline and natural gas were down again. Also seeing continued pressure were the U.S. dollar index and DJIA futures. In regards to the latter, overseas equity markets were under pressure with Japan's Nikkei losing 3%. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 295.64 points lower at 16,153.54, the NASDAQ Composite was down 103.42 points at 4,516.95, and the S&P 500 fell 36.35 points to close at 1,903.03 Tuesday. DJIA futures were 13 points lower overnight. Asian markets were lower with the Nikkei down 559.43 points (3.2%) while China's Shanghai Composite was off 10.32 points (0.3%). European markets were mostly lower with London's FTSE 100 down 48.93 points (0.8%). The U.S. dollar index was 0.212 lower at 98.660. Crude oil was up $0.49 at $30.37 while Brent crude rallied $0.51 to $33.23. April gold was $2.00 higher at $1,129.20. Dalian soybean futures were mostly higher while Malaysian palm oil futures were higher.
