DTN Closing Livestock Comment 03/02 16:01 Lean Hog Futures Close Mixed The lean hog trade settled on a mixed basis with bear-spreading interest pressuring spot April. Cattle futures closed moderately lower in the live market and feeder issues settling narrowly mixed. By John Harrington DTN Livestock Analyst GENERAL COMMENTS: There was barely a breath of wind in the midweek cattle area. A small handful of bids were noted in parts of the North at $212. Some showlists were prices around $140-$142 in the South and $220 in the North. According to the closing report, the Iowa hog base is $0.37 lower compared with the Prior Day settlement ($54.00-64.00, weighted average $63.55). Corn prices settled fractional higher thanks to light short-covering through another lackluster session. Equities closed mildly higher after their best start to a month in just over three years. Oil and data remained in focus ahead of Friday's jobs report. The Dow closed 34 points higher with the Nasdaq stronger by 13.
