DTN Early Word Grains 03/08 05:57 No Surprise, Grains Lower Tuesday May corn was 2 cents lower, May soybeans were 5 cents lower, and July Kansas City wheat was 3 cents lower. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: May corn was 2 cents lower, May soybeans were 5 cents lower, and July Kansas City wheat was 3 cents lower. CME Globex Recap: Given Monday's close off session highs in grains, there was no surprise with all the markets trading lower overnight into Tuesday morning. Soybeans led the way, losing as much as 7 cents during the session. Corn quietly lost about 2 cents. Outside markets, both the energy and metals complexes, showed mostly lower trade early Tuesday. The U.S. dollar index regained some of its strength on supportive economic headlines out of Europe overnight. DJIA futures were off almost 100 points. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 67.18 points higher at 17,073.95, the NASDAQ Composite was down 8.77 points at 4,708.25, and the S&P 500 gained 1.77 points to close at 2,001.76 Monday. DJIA futures were 101 points lower overnight. Asian markets were mostly lower with the Nikkei down 128.17 points (0.8%) while China's Shanghai Composite gained 4.05 points (0.1%). European markets were also mostly lower with London's FTSE 100 down 50.78 points (0.8%). The U.S. dollar index was up 0.113 at 97.184. Crude oil was down $0.32 at $37.58 while Brent crude fell $0.22 to $40.62. April gold was $12.20 higher at $1,276.20. China's Dalian soybean futures and Malaysian palm oil futures were both lower.
