DTN Early Word Grains 03/09 05:57 Grains Quiet Ahead of Reports May corn was 1 cent lower, May soybeans were unchanged, and July Kansas City wheat was 2 cents lower. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: May corn was 1 cent lower, May soybeans were unchanged, and July Kansas City wheat was 2 cents lower. CME Globex Recap: Grain markets were quiet ahead of Wednesday's round of USDA reports, set for release at noon (ET). All three major markets posted narrow trading ranges, led by corn at 1 cent. Outside markets were mixed again with energies higher and metals mostly lower. Both the U.S. dollar index and DJIA futures were rallying. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 109.85 points lower at 16,964.10, the NASDAQ Composite was down 59.43 points at 4,648.82, and the S&P 500 fell 22.50 points to close at 1,979.26 Tuesday. DJIA futures were 88 points higher overnight. Asian markets were mixed with the Nikkei down 140.95 points (0.8%) while China's Shanghai Composite fell 38.83 points (1.3%). European markets were mostly higher ahead of Thursday's European Central Bank Meeting, with London's FTSE 100 up 13.84 points (0.2%). The U.S. dollar index was up 0.151 at 97.360. Crude oil was up $0.60 at $37.10 while Brent crude rallied $0.75 to $40.40. April gold was $7.00 lower at $1,255.90. China's Dalian soybean futures were lower while Malaysian palm oil futures were higher.
