DTN Early Word Grains 03/24 06:04 Grain Prices Stoic In The Face Of Stormy Weather May corn was unchanged, May soybeans were down 1 cent, and July Kansas City wheat was up 1/4 cent. By Todd Hultman DTN Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: May corn was unchanged, May soybeans were down 1 cent, and July Kansas City wheat was up 1/4 cent. CME Globex Recap: Grains are off to a quiet start in spite of turbulent weather across the central U.S. The U.S. dollar index is slightly higher and Brazil's real slightly lower, offering a mild bearish currency bias to start the day. Global stock markets are mostly lower, as are gold and crude oil after the Energy Department reported another big jump in U.S. oil inventory on Wednesday. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 79.98 points lower at 17,502.59; the NASDAQ Composite was down 52.80 points at 4,768.86, while the S&P 500 was down 13.09 points at 2,036.71 Wednesday. DJIA futures are 58 points lower overnight. Asian markets are lower with the Nikkei down 85.00 (-.5%) while China's Shanghai Composite is down 49 points (-1.6%). European markets are lower with London's FTSE 100 down 58 points (-0.95%). The U.S. dollar index is up 0.17 at 96.22. Crude oil is down $0.71 at $39.08 while Brent crude is down $0.71 at $39.76. April gold was $6.40 lower at $1,217.60. China's Dalian soybean futures were steady to lower while Malaysian palm oil futures were 1% lower.
