DTN Early Word Grains 03/28 06:03 Grains Sluggish to Start the Week May corn was 1 cent lower, May soybeans were less than 1 cent lower, and July Kansas City wheat was fractionally higher. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: May corn was 1 cent lower, May soybeans were less than 1 cent lower, and July Kansas City wheat was fractionally higher. CME Globex Recap: Grains were quiet early Monday morning, though soybeans failed to hold an initial Sunday evening rally. Corn was under pressure for most of the session, while wheat flip-flopped across unchanged. Trade volume was, and is expected to continue to be, light ahead of Thursday's Quarterly Stocks (old crop) and Prospective Plantings (new crop) reports. Outside markets were mixed with energies mostly higher and metals mostly lower. The U.S. dollar index was showing a small gain, while DJIA futures were also higher. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 13.14 points higher at 17,515.73; the NASDAQ Composite was up 4.64 points at 4,773.50, while the S&P 500 fell 0.77 points to close at 2,035.94 Thursday. DJIA futures were 52 points higher overnight. Asian markets were mostly lower though the Nikkei was up 131.62 points (0.7%) while China's Shanghai Composite fell 21.61 points (0.7%). European markets were also mostly lower with London's FTSE 100 down 92.63 points (1.5%). The U.S. dollar index was up 0.106 at 96.248. Crude oil was up $0.29 at $39.75 while Brent crude rallied $0.23 to $40.67. June gold was $5.10 lower at $1,218.40. China's Dalian soybean futures were mixed while Malaysian palm oil futures were higher.
