DTN Early Word Grains 04/01 05:57 No Foolin', Grains Mostly Lower Early Friday May corn was near 2 cents lower, May soybeans were 2 cents higher, and July Kansas City wheat was 2 cents lower. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: May corn was near 2 cents lower, May soybeans were 2 cents higher, and July Kansas City wheat was 2 cents lower. CME Globex Recap: Early April Fools' Day finds both May and December corn contracts under pressure, but holding above new lows established after the release of USDA's reports. Wheat contracts were also lower, giving back some of Thursday's strong gains, while soybeans continued to build on long-term bullish technical signals. As for outside markets, Friday is their turn to pay close attention to government data with the March nonfarm payroll and unemployment rate set for release at 7:30 (CT). OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 31.57 points lower at 17,685.09, the NASDAQ Composite was up 0.56 points at 4,869.85, and the S&P 500 fell 4.21 points to close at 2,059.73 Thursday. DJIA futures were 40 points lower overnight, ahead of the release of March jobs data. Asian markets were lower with the Nikkei down 594.51 points (3.6%). European markets were also lower with London's FTSE 100 down 81.04 points (1.3%). The U.S. dollar index was off another 0.036 at 94.550. Crude oil was down $0.62 at $37.72 while Brent crude slipped $0.62 to $39.71. June gold was $2.70 lower at $1,232.90. China's Dalian soybean futures were lower while Malaysian palm oil futures were higher.
