DTN Closing Livestock Comment 04/06 15:43 Meat Futures Close With Solid Gains The cattle complex settled solidly higher with live contracts gaining ground on their feeder counterparts. Lean hog issues also scored decent progress, especially in summer months. By John Harrington DTN Livestock Analyst GENERAL COMMENTS: Although packer inquiry seemed decent at midweek, actual cash business in feedlot country was quite limited. Some sales were reported in parts of Kansas at $133, fully steady with last week. Although short-bought packers tried to buy cattle, bids remained well below asking prices of $135 to $136 in the South and $218-plus in the North. According to the closing report, the national hog base is $0.06 higher compared with the Prior Day settlement ($58.00-$64.00, weighted average $63.23). Corn futures closed higher, up 1 1/4 in the May and up 3/4 in the December.
