DTN Closing Livestock Comment 04/14 16:55 Hog Futures Close Mostly Lower With the exception of expiring April, lean hog contracts settled lower as deferred premiums continue to erode. The cattle complex settled mixed in the live market and moderately higher in the feeder trade. By John Harrington DTN Livestock Analyst GENERAL COMMENTS: The cash cattle trade remained untested as feedlot managers generally passed packer bids of $133 in the South and $214 to $215 in the North. Asking prices held firm at $136 to $138 in the South and $218-plus in the North. According to the closing report, the national hog base is .32 lower compared with the Prior Day settlement ($55.00-64.00, weighted average $62.18). Corn futures closed modestly higher, supported by follow-through buying and hot conditions in Brazil. U.S. stocks closed narrowly mixed with financials rising for a fifth straight day.
