DTN Closing Livestock Comment 04/15 16:15 Live Stock Futures Close Week Mostly Higher The cattle complex closed moderately higher with only spot April live finishing in the red. Similarly, lean hog futures finished the week with solid gains, supported by late week short-covering and profit-taking. By John Harrington DTN Livestock Analyst GENERAL COMMENTS: Light-to-moderate cattle trading developed in most areas Friday. Live steers and heifers in the South were marked at mostly $134.00, $1.00 higher than last week. Dressed deals in the North generally ranged from $214.00-$216.00, mostly steady with the previous week. The Iowa hog base closed $0.03 lower compared with the Prior Day settlement ($54.00-$64.00, weighted average $63.45). From Friday to Friday, livestock futures scored the following Changes: Apr LC, Off $2.90; Jun LC, Off $1.85; May FC, Off $2.30; Aug FC, Off $2.30, Jun LH, Off $3.25 Jul LH, Off $2.85. Corn futures closed generally 3-4 cents higher, posting a four-month high thanks to follow-though buying, short-covering, and further worries about dry conditions in Brazil. The stock market closed lower, pressured by declines in oil prices. The Dow settled 28 points lower with the Nasdaq off 7.
