DTN Early Word Grains 04/20 05:56 Grains Mixed Early Wednesday May corn was 1 cent higher, May soybeans were 3 cents lower, and July Kansas City wheat was 2 cents higher. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: May corn was 1 cent higher, May soybeans were 3 cents lower, and July Kansas City wheat was 2 cents higher. CME Globex Recap: Soybeans were giving back a small part of Tuesday's impressive rally early Wednesday while corn and winter wheat contracts were higher. Commodities in general were taking a breather following Tuesday's impressive show of strength, due in part to a small recovery by the U.S. dollar index overnight. Even DJIA futures were lower, pressured in part by spillover selling from mostly lower overseas equity markets. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 49.44 points higher at 18,053.60, the NASDAQ Composite was down 19.69 points at 4,940.33, and the S&P 500 gained 6.46 points to close at 2,100.80 Tuesday. DJIA futures were 22 points lower overnight. Asian markets were mixed with the Nikkei up 32.10 points (0.2%) while China's Shanghai Composite fell 70.24 points (2.3%). European markets were mostly lower with London's FTSE 100 down 32.88 points (0.5%). The U.S. dollar index was showing a small rally of 0.050 to 94.026. Crude oil was down $0.87 at $40.21 and Brent crude fell $0.70 to $43.33. June gold was $3.70 lower at $1,250.60. China's Dalian soybean futures and Malaysian palm oil futures were both higher again Wednesday morning.
