DTN Early Word Grains 04/22 05:56 No Surprise, Grains Lower Early Friday May corn was 4 cents lower, May soybeans were 22 cents lower, and July Kansas City wheat was 13 cents lower. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: May corn was 4 cents lower, May soybeans were 22 cents lower, and July Kansas City wheat was 13 cents lower. CME Globex Recap: Early Friday finds the grain markets deep in the red, with most contracts posting solid double-digit losses. Much of this was follow-through activity from Thursday, with additional pressure tied to the continued rally in the U.S. dollar index. Outside commodities were mixed with both gold and crude oil showing small losses. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 113.75 points lower at 17,982.52, the NASDAQ Composite was down 2.24 points at 4,945.89, and the S&P 500 fell 10.92 points to close at 2,091.48 Thursday. DJIA futures were 21 points lower overnight. Asian markets were mostly lower though the Nikkei was up 208.87 points (1.2%) while China's Shanghai Composite gained 6.35 points (0.2%). European markets were also mostly lower with London's FTSE 100 down 50.80 points (0.8%). The U.S. dollar index gained 0.191 at 94.790. Crude oil slipped $0.01 to $43.17 and Brent crude dropped $0.22 to $44.31. June gold was $0.90 lower at $1,249.40. China's Dalian soybean futures were higher while Malaysian palm oil futures were lower.
