DTN Closing Livestock Comment 04/29 16:29 Summer Hog Futures Close April With New One-Month Highs Lean hog futures closed with solid gains, supported by follow-through buying, technical bullishness, and improving fundamentals. The cattle complex closed moderately higher in the live market and mixed in the feeder trade. By John Harrington DTN Livestock Analyst GENERAL COMMENTS: For the most part, the cash cattle market was very quiet today with buyers and sellers content with the trade volume generated on Thursday. A few clean up deals were reported in the North at 194.00 basis Nebraska and 122.00-124.00 in parts of the South. The Iowa hog base closed $0.68 higher compared with the Prior Day settlement ($63.00-$71.00, weighted average $70.40). From Friday to Friday livestock futures scored the following changes: Apr LC, Off $1.62; Jun LC, Up $0.27; May FC, Off $2.03; Aug FC, Off $1.73, Jun LH, Up $2.88 Jul LH, Up $2.30. Corn futures closed modestly higher thanks to supportive export news and a weaker dollar. The Dow settled 57 points lower with the Nasdaq off 29.
