DTN Early Word Grains 05/02 05:55 Grains Quiet to Start the Month July corn was 1 cent lower, July soybeans were 2 cents lower, and July Kansas City wheat was 4 cents lower. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: July corn was 1 cent lower, July soybeans were 2 cents lower, and July Kansas City wheat was 4 cents lower. CME Globex Recap: After a lower open to Sunday's overnight session, grain contracts traded both sides of unchanged before showing minor losses early Monday morning. Outside commodities were mostly lower as well, despite another sharp sell-off by the U.S. dollar index. Metals traded higher, led by a solid double-digit rally in gold. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 57.12 points lower at 17,773.64, the NASDAQ Composite was down 29.93 points at 4,775.36, and the S&P 500 lost 10.51 points to close at 2,065.30 Friday. DJIA futures were 15 points higher overnight. Asian markets were lower with the Nikkei down 518.67 points (3.1%) and China's Shanghai Composite closed for holiday. European markets were mixed with London's FTSE 100 down 80.51 points (1.3%). The U.S. dollar index was down 0.232 at 92.850. Crude oil dropped $0.29 to $45.63 while Brent crude fell $0.43 to $46.94. June gold was $13.10 higher at $1,303.60. China's Dalian soybean futures and Malaysian palm oil futures were both closed overnight.
