DTN Closing Livestock Comment 05/06 15:56 Cattle Futures Crown Recovery Week With Higher Closes The cattle complex closed significantly higher, especially nearby live futures. On the other hand, lean hog contracts closed mostly lower with June losing ground to both spot May and deferreds. By John Harrington DTN Livestock Analyst GENERAL COMMENTS: From Friday to Friday livestock futures scored the following Changes: Jun LC, Up $5.80; Aug LC, Up $5.45; May FC, Up $6.95; Aug FC, Up $6.80, Jun LH, Off $0.43, Jul LH, Up $0.43. Aggressive cattle spending developed late Friday, pushing live steers and heifers $2 to $4 higher on a live basis. Kansas and Texas feedlots reported sales ranging from $126 to $128. In the North, dressed sales ranged from $198 to $200, $4 to $6 higher than last week's weighted average basis Nebraska. According to the closing report, the national hog base is $0.28 higher compared with the Prior Day settlement ($66.00-$73.60, weighted average $71.27). Corn futures closed higher, up 3 3/4 in the July and up 3 1/4 in the December.
