DTN Early Word Grains 08/09 06:03 Watson Not Impressed with Browning (Effect) December corn was 2 cents lower, November soybeans were 6 cents lower, and September Chicago wheat was 3 cents lower. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: December corn was 2 cents lower, November soybeans were 6 cents lower, and September Chicago wheat was 3 cents lower. CME Globex Recap: Watson (large, international computerized trade) wasn't impressed with NASS' latest, and lower, weekly crop condition numbers for corn as the market, as well as the entire grain complex stumbled overnight. In fact, the commodity complex in general was lower despite a slight sell-off in the U.S. dollar index. One of the few markets showing green was DJIA futures, following the lead of overseas equity markets. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 14.24 points lower at 18,529.29, the NASDAQ Composite lost 7.98 points to 5,213.14, and the S&P 500 dipped 1.98 points to close at 2,180.89 Monday. DJIA futures gained 9 points overnight. Asian markets were mostly higher with Japan's Nikkei up 114.40 points (0.7%) and China's Shanghai Composite rallied 21.40 points (0.7%). European markets were higher with London's FTSE 100 up 23.97 points (0.4%), Germany's DAX rallied 47.36 points (0.5%), and France's CAC 40 gained 20.07 points (0.5%). The U.S. dollar index slipped 0.020 to 96.381. Crude oil was off $0.01 to $43.01 while Brent crude was $0.06 lower at $45.33. December gold was $1.90 lower at $1,339.40. China's Dalian soybean futures were mixed while Malaysian palm oil futures were higher again overnight.
