DTN Early Word Grains 08/11 05:58 An Olympic Reaction Early Thursday December corn was 1 cent lower, November soybeans were 1 cent lower, and September Chicago wheat was fractionally lower. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: December corn was 1 cent lower, November soybeans were 1 cent lower, and September Chicago wheat was fractionally lower. CME Globex Recap: Traders, at least the non-computer type, and analysts alike are starting to wear down from the schedule of late night Olympics and overnight through early morning markets. To that end, commodities in general were lackluster early Thursday while the U.S. dollar index and DJIA futures rallied. The only commodity showing a little life overnight was cotton as it tries to gain back some of its recent collapse. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 37.39 points lower at 18,495.66, the NASDAQ Composite lost 20.90 points to 5,204.58, and the S&P 500 fell 6.25 points to close at 2,175.49 Wednesday. DJIA futures gained 44 points overnight. Asian markets were mixed with China's Shanghai Composite 16.11 points (0.5%) lower. European markets were mostly higher with London's FTSE 100 down 20.66 points (0.3%), Germany's DAX gained 58.43 points (0.6%), and France's CAC 40 rallied 30.31 points (0.7%). The U.S. dollar index was 0.234 higher to 95.884. Crude oil was off $0.03 to $41.68 while Brent crude was $0.10 higher at $44.15. December gold was $2.50 lower at $1,349.40. China's Dalian soybean futures were higher while Malaysian palm oil futures were mostly lower overnight.
