DTN Early Word Grains 08/19 05:58 Same Setup, Different Day December corn was 1 cent lower, November soybeans were 15 cents lower, and December Chicago wheat was 2 cents lower. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: December corn was 1 cent lower, November soybeans were 15 cents lower, and December Chicago wheat was 2 cents lower. CME Globex Recap: Soybeans posted a sharp double-digit sell-off with contracts near session lows early Friday morning. Light spillover selling pressured both corn and wheat, though narrow trading ranges were seen once again. Outside commodities were mostly lower crude oil near unchanged and gold down. This was likely due to more chatter about an interest rate increase in September is still in play, rallying the U.S. dollar index. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 23.76 points higher at 18,597.70, the NASDAQ Composite gained 11.49 points to 5,240.15, and the S&P 500 rallied 4.80 points to close at 2,187.02 Thursday. DJIA futures were 37 points lower overnight. Asian markets were mixed with Japan's Nikkei up 59.81 points (0.4%) while China's Shanghai Composite gained 3.99 points (0.1%). European markets were lower with London's FTSE 100 down 15.64 points (0.2%), Germany's DAX lost 56.37 points (0.5%), and France's CAC 40 fell 31.30 points (0.7%). The U.S. dollar index was 0.252 higher to 94.409. Crude oil gained $0.01 to $48.23 while Brent crude was $0.11 lower at $50.78. December gold was $6.60 lower at $1,350.60. China's Dalian soybean futures were lower while Malaysian palm oil futures were higher overnight.
