DTN Early Word Grains 08/23 05:57 Grains Under Pressure Early Tuesday December corn was 4 cents lower, November soybeans were 7 cents lower, and December Chicago wheat was 4 cents lower. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: December corn was 4 cents lower, November soybeans were 7 cents lower, and December Chicago wheat was 4 cents lower. CME Globex Recap: Grains were lower early Tuesday on relatively light trading volume. Outside commodities were mostly lower with crude oil extending Monday's sell-off while gold tried to trade higher. The U.S. dollar index was quietly lower as DJIA futures followed some overseas markets higher. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 23.15 points lower at 18,529.42, the NASDAQ Composite gained 6.22 points to 5,244.60, and the S&P 500 slipped 1.23 points to close at 2,182.64 Monday. DJIA futures were 48 points higher overnight. Asian markets were mostly higher with Japan's Nikkei down 100.83 points (0.6%) while China's Shanghai Composite gained 4.90 points (0.2%). European markets were higher with London's FTSE 100 up 40.45 points (0.6%), Germany's DAX gained 99.92 points (1.0%), and France's CAC 40 rallied 32.68 points (0.7%). The U.S. dollar index was 0.064 lower to 94.455. Crude oil fell $0.56 to $46.85 while Brent crude was $0.58 lower at $48.58. December gold was $1.00 lower at $1,342.40. China's Dalian soybean futures were lower while Malaysian palm oil futures were higher overnight.
