DTN Early Word Grains 09/14 05:57 Grains Quiet Overnight December corn was 1 cent higher, November soybeans were 2 cents higher, and December Chicago wheat was unchanged. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: December corn was 1 cent higher, November soybeans were 2 cents higher, and December Chicago wheat was unchanged. CME Globex Recap: Grains were quiet overnight with contracts posting narrow trading ranges. The noncommercial selling that has dominated soybeans since Monday's report seemed to subside, though little buying interest was seen in the complex as a whole. Outside commodities found some renewed life with both gold and crude oil posting small gains. The U.S. dollar index was lower as the chatter regarding a September Federal Reserve rate increase came to an end. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 258.32 points (1.4%) lower at 18,066.75, the NASDAQ Composite lost 56.63 points (1.1%) to 5,155.25, and the S&P 500 fell 32.02 points (1.5%) to close at 2,127.02 Tuesday. DJIA futures were 16 points higher overnight. Asian markets were mostly lower with Japan's Nikkei down 114.80 points (0.7%) while China's Shanghai Composite lost 20.66 points (0.7%). European markets were higher with London's FTSE 100 up 44.00 points (0.7%), Germany's DAX gaining 47.55 points (0.5%), and France's CAC 40 adding 3.77 points (0.1%). The U.S. dollar index was 0.110 lower at 95.523. Crude oil rallied $0.24 to $45.14 while Brent crude gained $0.17 to $47.27. December gold was $2.60 higher at $1,326.30. China's Dalian soybean and Malaysian palm oil futures were both lower overnight.
