DTN Early Word Grains 10/03 05:55 A Quiet Start to a New Month December corn was fractionally higher, November soybeans were 1 cent higher, and December Chicago wheat was 1 cent lower. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: December corn was fractionally higher, November soybeans were 1 cent higher, and December Chicago wheat was 1 cent lower. CME Globex Recap: Commodities were mostly higher early Monday with grains recovering from a lower open Sunday night. This despite a slightly stronger U.S. dollar index. DJIA futures were quietly higher while crude oil extended last month's rally. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 164.70 points (0.9%) higher at 18,308.15, the NASDAQ Composite gained 42.85 points (0.8%) to 5,312.00, and the S&P 500 fell 17.14 points (0.8%) to close at 2,168.27 Friday. DJIA futures were 12 points higher overnight. Asian markets were mostly higher with Japan's Nikkei up 148.83 points (0.9%). European markets were higher with London's FTSE 100 up 76.47 points (1.1%), Germany's DAX gained 105.48 points (1.0%), and France's CAC 40 added 12.67 points (0.3%). The U.S. dollar index was 0.070 higher at 95.533. Crude oil gained $0.48 to $48.72 while Brent crude rallied $0.52 to $50.71. December gold was $3.00 higher at $1,320.10. China's Dalian soybean and Malaysian palm oil futures were both closed for holiday overnight.
