DTN Early Word Grains 10/04 05:56 Grains Take a Breather December corn was unchanged, November soybeans were 3 cents lower, and December Chicago wheat was 1 cent lower. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: December corn was unchanged, November soybeans were 3 cents lower, and December Chicago wheat was 1 cent lower. CME Globex Recap: Commodities were mostly lower early Tuesday, due in large part to a sharp rally in the U.S. dollar index. Currencies were active overnight as the British pound fell to its lowest level against the dollar since 1985. DJIA futures were higher while gold was lower. Grains were mostly lower, with soybeans giving back a small part of Monday's rally. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 54.30 points (0.3%) lower at 18,253.85, the NASDAQ Composite lost 11.13 points (0.2%) to 5,300.87, and the S&P 500 fell 7.07 points (0.3%) to close at 2,161.20 Monday. DJIA futures were 29 points higher overnight. Asian markets were higher with Japan's Nikkei up 136.98 points (0.8%). European markets were also higher with London's FTSE 100 up 105.09 points (1.5%), Germany's DAX gained 64.14 points (0.6%), and France's CAC 40 added 39.35 points (0.9%). The U.S. dollar index was 0.520 higher at 96.265. Crude oil lost $0.36 to $48.45 while Brent crude fell $0.33 to $50.56. December gold was $2.10 lower at $1,310.60. China's Dalian soybean futures remained closed for holiday while Malaysian palm oil futures were lower overnight.
