DTN Early Word Grains 10/05 05:56 Grains Quiet Again Early Wednesday December corn was 1 cent lower, November soybeans were 1 cent higher, and December Chicago wheat was fractionally lower. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: December corn was 1 cent lower, November soybeans were 1 cent higher, and December Chicago wheat was fractionally lower. CME Globex Recap: Commodities were mixed with energies, metals, and most of the oilseeds higher while corn and wheat were lower. The U.S. dollar index was posting a small loss as global financial markets calm down from Tuesday's large moves. Grains were quiet for the most part, looking ahead to another day with little fresh news. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 85.40 points (0.5%) lower at 18,168.45, the NASDAQ Composite lost 11.22 points (0.2%) to 5,289.66, and the S&P 500 fell 10.71 points (0.5%) to close at 2,150.49 Tuesday. DJIA futures were 10 points lower overnight. Asian markets were mixed with Japan's Nikkei up 83.59 points (0.5%). European markets were mostly lower with London's FTSE 100 down 36.49 points (0.5%), Germany's DAX lost 76.59 points (0.7%), and France's CAC 40 fell 35.72 points (0.8%). The U.S. dollar index was 0.074 lower at 96.095. Crude oil gained $0.83 to $49.52 while Brent crude added $0.90 to $51.77. December gold was $6.00 higher at $1,275.70. China's Dalian soybean futures remained closed for holiday while Malaysian palm oil futures were lower again overnight.
