DTN Early Word Grains 10/11 05:56 Another Quiet Night for Grains December corn was fractionally lower, November soybeans were 2 cents higher, and December Chicago wheat was fractionally higher. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: December corn was fractionally lower, November soybeans were 2 cents higher, and December Chicago wheat was fractionally higher. CME Globex Recap: Grains were mostly higher overnight with soybeans recovering what was lost Tuesday. Outside markets saw crude oil pull back, with the spot-month contract unable to break through its previous high of $51.67. This sets the stage for a possible double-top on weekly charts. Gold was also lower as the U.S. dollar index continues to climb higher. DJIA futures were under pressure, indicating a pullback in the DJIA from Monday's high during Tuesday's session. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 88.55 points (0.5%) higher at 18,329.04, the NASDAQ Composite gained 36.27 points (0.7%) to 5,328.67, and the S&P 500 rallied 9.92 points (0.5%) to close at 2,163.66 Monday. DJIA futures were 33 points lower overnight. Asian markets were mostly higher with Japan's Nikkei up 164.67 points (1.0%), Hong Kong's Hang Seng was down 302.30 points (1.3%), and China's Shanghai composite gaining 17.11 points (0.6%). European markets were mixed with London's FTSE 100 up 8.10 points (0.1%), Germany's DAX gaining 7.94 points (0.1%), and France's CAC 40 adding 7.76 points (0.2%). The U.S. dollar index was 0.401 higher at 97.320. Crude oil slipped $0.45 to $50.30 while Brent crude lost $0.51 to $52.63. December gold was $3.40 lower at $1,257.00. China's Dalian soybean and Malaysian palm oil futures were higher overnight.
