DTN Early Word Grains 10/12 05:57 A Few Hours More December corn was 1 cent higher, November soybeans were 1 cent higher, and December Chicago wheat was 2 cents lower. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: December corn was 1 cent higher, November soybeans were 1 cent higher, and December Chicago wheat was 2 cents lower. CME Globex Recap: Grains head into USDA report day relatively flat, with all three showing tight trading ranges overnight. The U.S. dollar index remains a problem for grains, commodities in general, rallying another 0.100 overnight. Crude oil recovered some of Tuesday's sell-off while gold posted a small gain. DJIA futures were lower on spillover pressure from Tuesday's 200 point sell-off. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 200.38 points (1.1%) lower at 18,126.66, the NASDAQ Composite lost 81.89 points (1.5%) to 5,246.79, and the S&P 500 fell 26.93 points (1.2%) to close at 2,136.73 Tuesday. DJIA futures were 29 points lower overnight. Asian markets were mostly lower with Japan's Nikkei down 184.76 points (1.1%), Hong Kong's Hang Seng was down 142.47 points (0.6%), and China's Shanghai composite lost 6.75 points (0.2%). European markets were also mostly lower with London's FTSE 100 down 24.79 points (0.3%), Germany's DAX losing 18.96 points (0.2%), and France's CAC 40 off 11.44 points (0.3%). The U.S. dollar index was 0.115 higher at 97.805. Crude oil gained $0.09 to $50.88 while Brent crude added $0.21 to $52.62. December gold was $1.50 higher at $1,257.40. China's Dalian soybean futures were lower while Malaysian palm oil futures were higher overnight.
