DTN Early Word Grains 10/17 06:04 Overnight Jumping Beans December corn was 2 cents higher, November soybeans were 8 cents higher, and December Chicago wheat was 2 cents higher. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: December corn was 2 cents higher, November soybeans were 8 cents higher, and December Chicago wheat was 2 cents higher. CME Globex Recap: Soybeans shook off a sluggish open Sunday night to trade as much as 10 cents higher overnight. Spillover buying helped to support both corn and wheat, with both trailing the gains seen in the soybean market. Outside markets; softs, energies, and metals, were mostly lower despite a slight sell-off in the U.S. dollar index. DJIA futures were under pressure, following the lead of overseas equity markets. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 39.44 points (0.2%) higher at 18,138.38, the NASDAQ Composite gained 0.83 points to 5,214.16, and the S&P 500 rallied 0.43 points to close at 2,132.98 Friday. DJIA futures were 64 points higher overnight. Asian markets were mostly lower with Japan's Nikkei up 43.75 points (0.3%), Hong Kong's Hang Seng lost 195.77 points (0.8%), and China's Shanghai composite fell 22.64 points (0.77%). European markets were lower with London's FTSE 100 down 56.95 points (0.8%), Germany's DAX losing 57.75 points (0.6%), and France's CAC 40 slipping 20.37 points (0.5%). The U.S. dollar index was 0.017 lower at 98.002. Crude oil slipped $0.06 to $50.29 while Brent crude added $0.05 to $52.00. December gold was $1.00 lower at $1,254.50. China's Dalian soybean and Malaysian palm oil futures were both again higher overnight, the latter showing a strong triple-digit gain.
