DTN Early Word Grains 10/18 05:56 No Turnaround in Soybeans, Yet December corn was 1 cent higher, November soybeans were 1 cent higher, and December Chicago wheat was 2 cents lower. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: December corn was 1 cent higher, November soybeans were 1 cent higher, and December Chicago wheat was 2 cents lower. CME Globex Recap: Soybeans were showing a small gain early Tuesday morning, but threatening a turnaround after Monday's sharp rally. Corn was also higher while wheat was lower, reversing the previous day's closes. Outside markets were mixed with softs lower while energies and metals traded higher. Financial markets were also mixed with DJIA futures higher and the U.S. dollar index under pressure again. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 51.98 points (0.3%) lower at 18,086.40, the NASDAQ Composite lost 14.34 points (0.3%) to 5,199.82, and the S&P 500 fell 6.48 points (0.3%) to close at 2,126.50 Monday. DJIA futures were 63 points higher overnight. Asian markets were higher with Japan's Nikkei up 63.49 points (0.4%), Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 356.85 points (1.6%), and China's Shanghai composite added 42.71 points (1.4%). European markets were mostly higher with London's FTSE 100 up 66.13 points (1.0%), Germany's DAX gaining 121.77 points (1.2%), and France's CAC 40 adding 52.08 points (1.2%). The U.S. dollar index was 0.235 lower at 97.653. Crude oil gained $0.45 to $50.39 while Brent crude added $0.41 to $51.93. December gold was $5.90 higher at $1,262.50. China's Dalian soybean and Malaysian palm oil futures were both lower overnight.
