DTN Early Word Grains 10/19 05:56 Grains Quiet as Cubs Overnight December corn was 1 cent lower, November soybeans were unchanged, and December Chicago wheat was 2 cents lower. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: December corn was 1 cent lower, November soybeans were unchanged, and December Chicago wheat was 2 cents lower. CME Globex Recap: The Chicago grain complex was as quiet as the Cubs last night; led by a low volume, narrow range trading corn market. Soybeans actually showed some life on decent volume, but was back to near unchanged early Wednesday. Outside commodity markets were mostly higher, aided by a 0.200 sell-off in the U.S. dollar index. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 75.54 points (0.4%) higher at 18,161.94, the NASDAQ Composite gained 44.01 points (0.9%) to 5,243.84, and the S&P 500 rallied 13.10 points (0.6%) to close at 2,139.60 Tuesday. DJIA futures were 3 points lower overnight. Asian markets were mostly higher with Japan's Nikkei up 35.30 points (0.2%), Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell 89.42 points (0.4%), and China's Shanghai composite added 0.84 point. European markets were mostly lower with London's FTSE 100 down 8.33 points (0.1%), Germany's DAX slipping 20.30 points (0.1%), and France's CAC 40 was off 5.76 points (0.1%). The U.S. dollar index was 0.213 lower at 97.682. Crude oil gained $0.72 to $51.01 while Brent crude added $0.73 to $52.41. December gold was $8.10 higher at $1,271.00. China's Dalian soybean futures were lower while Malaysian palm oil futures were higher overnight.
