DTN Early Word Grains 10/28 06:01 Grains Tentative Early Friday December corn was 1 cent lower, November soybeans were unchanged, and December Chicago wheat was 1 cent lower. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: December corn was 1 cent lower, November soybeans were unchanged, and December Chicago wheat was 1 cent lower. CME Globex Recap: Grains posted a quiet overnight session, almost tentative as the end of the week and end of the month approaches. Soybeans once again led the way, this time without the assistance of bean meal. Outside commodities were mostly lower with both energies and metals showing losses with only copper able to post a small gain. The U.S. dollar index was near unchanged while global equites were mostly lower. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 29.65 points (0.2%) lower at 18,169.68, the NASDAQ Composite lost 34.29 points (0.6%) to 5,215.97, and the S&P 500 fell 6.39 points (0.3%) to close at 2,133.04 Thursday. DJIA futures were 7 points lower overnight. Asian markets were mixed with Japan's Nikkei up 109.99 points (0.6%), Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index dropped 177.54 points (0.8%), and China's Shanghai Composite lost 8.08 points (0.3%). European markets were mostly lower Friday with London's FTSE 100 down 10.38 points (0.2%), Germany's DAX losing 42.44 points (0.4%), and France's CAC 40 adding 8.48 points (0.2%). The U.S. dollar index was 0.010 lower at 98.878. Crude oil dipped $0.22 to $49.50 while Brent crude slipped $0.12 to $50.35. December gold was $2.40 lower at $1,267.10. China's Dalian soybean futures were lower while Malaysian palm oil futures posted small gains overnight.
