DTN Early Word Grains 11/01 06:08 Grains Hit by Triskaidekaphobia December corn was 1 cent lower, January soybeans were 2 cents lower, and December Chicago wheat was 1 cent lower. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: December corn was 1 cent lower, January soybeans were 2 cents lower, and December Chicago wheat was 1 cent lower. CME Globex Recap: Call it Turnaround Tuesday (kind of), continued selling from Monday, or a mild case of Triskaidekaphobia (fear of the number 13; the binary 13 is 1101), but grains were all lower overnight into Tuesday morning. This despite renewed selling in the U.S. dollar index and strong buying in gold. The energy complex is a bit of a mess as RBOB gasoline sorts out the expiration of the November contract and roll to December. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 18.77 points (0.1%) lower at 18,142.42, the NASDAQ Composite lost 0.97 points to 5,189.13, and the S&P 500 fell 0.26 points to close at 2,126.15 Monday. DJIA futures were 45 points higher overnight. Asian markets were mostly higher with Japan's Nikkei up 17.38 points (0.1%), Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index gained 212.53 points (0.9%), and China's Shanghai Composite added 21.94 points (0.7%). European markets were also mostly higher Tuesday with London's FTSE 100 up 20.06 points (0.3%), Germany's DAX adding 26.71 points (0.3%), and France's CAC 40 up 8.58 points (0.2%). The U.S. dollar index was 0.251 lower at 98.194. Crude oil dipped $0.13 to $46.73 while Brent crude gained $0.12 to $48.73. December gold was $11.90 higher at $1,285.00. China's Dalian soybean futures were mostly higher while Malaysian palm oil futures were lower overnight.
