DTN Early Word Grains 11/17 05:57 Once Again, Grains Higher Overnight December corn was 1 cent higher, January soybeans were 4 cents higher, and December Chicago wheat was 1 cent higher. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: December corn was 1 cent higher, January soybeans were 3 cents higher, and December Chicago wheat was 2 cents higher. CME Globex Recap: Grains were higher early Thursday following a lightly traded overnight session. Of course it didn't hurt that the U.S. dollar index was down while Malaysian palm oil and China's Dalian soybean futures were higher. Crude oil, gold, and DJIA futures were also showing gains. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 54.92 points (0.3%) lower at 18,868.14. The NASDAQ Composite gained 18.96 points (0.4%) to 5,294.58, and the S&P 500 dipped 3.45 points to close at 2,176.94 Wednesday. DJIA futures were 17 points higher Thursday morning. Asian markets were mostly higher with Japan's Nikkei up 0.42 point, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index fell 17.65 points (0.1%), and China's Shanghai Composite added 3.40 points (1.1%). European markets were also mostly higher Thursday with London's FTSE 100 up 23.74 points (0.4%), Germany's DAX off 17.86 points (0.2%), and France's CAC 40 gaining 4.35 points (0.1%). The U.S. dollar index was 0.360 lower at 100.050. Crude oil gained $0.37 to $45.94 while Brent crude rallied $0.53 to $47.15. December gold was $5.70 higher at $1,229.60. China's Dalian soybean and Malaysian palm oil futures were both higher overnight.
