DTN Early Word Grains 12/01 05:57 Welcome to Winter March corn was 1 cent higher, January soybeans were 6 cents higher, and March Chicago wheat was fractionally higher. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: March corn was 1 cent higher, January soybeans were 6 cents higher, and March Chicago wheat was fractionally higher. CME Globex Recap: The first of December marks the unofficial start of winter, and the grains have welcomed the change of season with a slight overnight rally. This was largely expected given the sell-off seen to close the month of November, but also not expected to hold through Thursday's session. The energy complex continued its rally while metals remain under pressure. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 1.98 points higher at 19,123.58. The NASDAQ Composite lost 56.24 points (1.1%) to 5,323.68, and the S&P 500 fell 5.85 points (0.3%) to close at 2,198.81 Wednesday. DJIA futures were 4 points lower Thursday morning. Asian markets were higher with Japan's Nikkei up 204.64 points (1.1%), Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index gained 88.46 points (0.4%), and China's Shanghai Composite added 23.27 points (0.7%). European markets were lower Thursday with London's FTSE 100 down 76.61 points (1.1%), Germany's DAX falling 85.79 points (0.8%), and France's CAC 40 off 33.01 points (0.7%). The U.S. dollar index was 0.33 lower at 101.17. Crude oil rallied $0.50 to $49.94 while Brent crude gained $0.65 to $52.49. December gold was $4.80 lower at $1,169.10. China's Dalian soybean and Malaysian palm oil futures were both higher overnight.
