DTN Early Word Grains 12/05 06:01 Soy Complex Starts the Week Higher March corn was up 1 cent, January soybeans were up 10 1/4 cents, and March Chicago wheat was up 2 1/4 cents. By Todd Hultman DTN Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: March corn was down 1 cent, January soybeans were up 10 1/4 cents, and March Chicago wheat was up 2 1/4 cents. CME Globex Recap: Grains are off to a higher start, mostly in the soy complex, with help from a 2.1% gain in January palm oil futures and noncommercial buying in soybean meal. Even though Italy voted against pro-European changes in Sunday's election, European stocks are trading higher Monday so financial traders are showing no panic and U.S. stocks are expected to start higher. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 21.51 points at 19,170.42 on Friday. The NASDAQ Composite was up 4.54 points to 5,256.65, and the S&P 500 was up 0.87 points to close at 2,191.95. DJIA futures are 84 points higher early Monday. Asian markets are lower with Japan's Nikkei down 151 points (-0.8%), Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index is down 59 points (-0.3%), and China's Shanghai Composite is down 39 points (-1.2%). European markets are higher Monday with London's FTSE 100 up 22 points (0.3%), Germany's DAX is up 156 points (1.5%), and France's CAC 40 is up 52 points (1.1%). Italy's FTSE MIB is down 20 points (0.1%) after Sunday's vote. The U.S. dollar index is down 0.07 at 100.70. Crude oil is up $0.51 at $52.19 while Brent crude is up $0.66 at $55.12. February gold is down $10.10 at $1,167.70. Malaysian palm oil futures were up 2.1% overnight.
