DTN Early Word Grains 12/22 05:55 On the Fourth Day of Christmas... March corn was 1 cent lower, January soybeans were 5 cents lower, and March Chicago wheat was unchanged. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: March corn was 1 cent lower, January soybeans were 5 cents lower, and March Chicago wheat was unchanged. CME Globex Recap: An early Thursday look at the quote screen shows most markets in the red. Leading the way once again is soybeans, while corn did what corn usually does overnight. Crude oil and gold were also lower despite a slight sell-off by the U.S. dollar. DJIA futures were down slightly as the Big Board continues to look longingly at the 20,000 mark just out of reach. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 32.66 points (0.2%) higher at 19,941.96. The NASDAQ Composite lost 12.51 points (0.2%) to 5,471.43 and the S&P 500 dipped 5.58 points (0.3%) to close at 2,265.18 Wednesday. DJIA futures were 9 points lower Thursday morning. Asian markets were lower with Japan's Nikkei down 16.82 points (0.1%), Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index off 173.60 points (0.8%), and China's Shanghai Composite up 2.13 points. European markets were mostly lower Thursday with London's FTSE 100 down 8.46 points (0.1%), Germany's DAX off 13.71 points (0.1%), and France's CAC 40 slipping 7.42 points (0.2%). The U.S. dollar index was 0.21 lower at 102.79. March 30-year T-Bonds were up 3/32 at 149'00 while December gold slipped $1.10 to $1,132.10. Crude oil was off $0.27 to $52.22 while Brent crude lost $0.31 to $54.15. Malaysian palm oil futures were lower overnight.
