DTN Early Word Grains 12/23 05:56 On the Fifth Day of Christmas... March corn was 1 cent lower, January soybeans were fractionally lower, and March Chicago wheat was fractionally lower. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: March corn was 1 cent lower, January soybeans were fractionally lower, and March Chicago wheat was fractionally lower. CME Globex Recap: It's more of the same, mostly, early Friday morning with markets generally lower. Natural gas, gold, and sugar were all showing small gains but hardly offsetting this week's sell-offs. Possibly the most interesting aspect of Friday's session could be if the Dow Jones Industrial Average makes another run at 20,000 before the three-day holiday weekend. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 23.08 points (0.1%) lower at 19,918.88. The NASDAQ Composite lost 24.01 points (0.4%) to 5,447.42 and the S&P 500 dipped 4.22 points (0.2%) to close at 2,260.96 Thursday. DJIA futures were unchanged early Friday morning. Asian markets were lower with Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index off 61.44 points (0.3%) and China's Shanghai Composite down 29.40 points (0.9%). European markets were mostly higher Friday with London's FTSE 100 down 5.43 points (0.1%), Germany's DAX up 9.16 points (0.1%), and France's CAC 40 adding 1.89 points. The U.S. dollar index was 0.03 lower at 103.06. March 30-year T-Bonds were up 10/32 at 149'04 while December gold climbed $1.80 to $1,132.50. Crude oil was off $0.43 to $52.52 while Brent crude lost $0.42 to $54.63. Dalian soybean and Malaysian palm oil futures were both mostly lower overnight.
