DTN Early Word Grains 12/29 06:02 On the Eleventh Day of Christmas... March corn was 2 cents higher, March soybeans were 4 cents higher, and March Chicago wheat was 2 cents higher. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: March corn was 2 cents higher, March soybeans were 4 cents higher, and March Chicago wheat was 2 cents higher. CME Globex Recap: Commodities in general were green again early Thursday morning, supported by overnight pressure in the U.S. dollar index. Soybeans showed the strongest gain, with corn and wheat continuing to follow. DJIA futures were lower on follow-through selling from Wednesday's triple-digit loss, putting the 20,000 level further in the distance. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 111.36 points lower at 19,833.68. The NASDAQ Composite lost 48.89 points (0.9%) to 5,438.56 and the S&P 500 fell 18.96 points (0.8%) to close at 2,249.92 Wednesday. DJIA futures were 3 points lower early Thursday morning. Asian markets were mixed with Japan's Nikkei down 256.58 points (1.3%), Hong Kong's Hang Seng was up 36.17 points (0.2%), and China's Shanghai Composite was off 6.14 points (0.2%). European markets were mostly lower Thursday with London's FTSE 100 losing 4.34 points, Germany's DAX off 25.24 points (0.2%), and France's CAC 40 losing 5.28 points (0.1%). The U.S. dollar index was 0.49 lower at 102.73. March 30-year T-Bonds were up 12/32 at 150'03 while December gold added $6.60 to $1,147.50. Crude oil dipped $0.25 to $53.81 while Brent crude was $0.02 higher at $56.24. Dalian soybean futures were higher and Malaysian palm oil futures were lower overnight.
