DTN Early Word Grains 01/09 06:07 Grains Start Report Week in the Green March corn was 1 cent higher, March soybeans were 1 cent higher, and March Chicago wheat was 4 cents higher. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: March corn was 1 cent higher, March soybeans were 1 cent higher, and March Chicago wheat was 4 cents higher. CME Globex Recap: Wheat continues to be the strength of the grain complex, with both winter markets posting solid rallies overnight. Corn and soybeans were both showing fractional gains, the latter holding above key technical price support on weekly charts. Outside commodities were mostly lower with energies and softs showing losses while metals were mostly higher. The U.S. dollar index was showing small gains while DJIA futures were lower. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 64.51 points (0.3%) higher at 19,963.80. The NASDAQ Composite gained 33.12 points (0.6%) to 5,521.06 and the S&P 500 added 7.98 points (0.4%) to close at 2,276.98 Friday. DJIA futures were 12 points lower early Monday morning. Asian markets were mixed with Japan's Nikkei closed, Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 55.68 points (0.3%), and China's Shanghai Composite rallied 16.92 points (0.5%). European markets were mostly lower Monday with London's FTSE 100 up 9.07 points (0.1%), Germany's DAX off 53.45 points (0.5%), and France's CAC 40 down 35.58 points (0.7%). The U.S. dollar index was 0.18% higher at 102.40 while the euro was down 0.12% at 1.0520. March 30-year T-Bonds were up 19/32 at 152'12 while February gold gained $4.60 to $1,178.00. Crude oil fell $0.87 to $53.12 while Brent crude was $0.96 lower at $56.14. Dalian soybean futures were lower and Malaysian palm oil futures were higher overnight.
