IOWA . . . . . *=PRIVATE SOURCES DTN COMMENTS: The cash cattle market remains untested at midday with both buyers and sellers impressed by sharply higher futures. For example, spot February live is now trading above the December 30 high of 118.50. Needless to say, such a bullish explosion (presuming it holds) is working to stoke feedlot bullishness and price expectations. Although some showlists have been priced as high as 120.00 in the South we suspect that feedlot managers will take a wait and see attitude until later this week. Beef cutouts are significantly lower at midday (Choice 195.67 -1.68, Select 190.90 -1.04) with light to moderate box movement (38.76 lds of choice cuts, 12.11 lds of select cuts, 11.92 lds of trim, and 9.55 lds of ground). Again, triple digit gains dominate cattle futures near midday, supported by aggressive short-covering, bullish export news, and firming cash expectations.
