DTN Early Word Grains 04/13 06:07 Soybeans Attempt Second Day Higher May corn was up 2 cents, May soybeans were up 10 cents, and May Chicago wheat was up 1 3/4 cents. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: May corn was up 2 cents, May soybeans were up 10 cents, and May Chicago wheat was up 1 3/4 cents. CME Globex Recap: May soybeans were starting higher Thursday, seeking to break its bearish streak of five consecutive weekly losses with help from ongoing concerns of recent flooding in Argentina. Corn and wheat were moderately higher with Thursday's weekly export sales report on the docket. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 59.44 points at 20,591.86. The Nasdaq Composite was down 30.61 points at 5,836.16 and the S&P 500 was down 8.85 points at 2,344.93 Wednesday. DJIA futures were down 39 points early Thursday morning. Asian markets were mostly lower with Japan's Nikkei down 125.77 points (-0.7%), Hong Kong's Hang Seng down 51.84 points (-0.2%), and China's Shanghai Composite up 2.13 points (0.1%). European markets were also a little lower Thursday with London's FTSE 100 down 43.72 points (-0.6%), Germany's DAX down 45.87 points (-0.4%), and France's CAC 40 down 32.64 points (-0.6%). The U.S. dollar index was up 0.14 at 100.32 while the June euro was up 0.00445 at 1.06715. June 30-year T-Bonds were up 1 5/32nds at 154'05 while June gold was up $10.60 at $1,288.70. May crude oil was down $0.03 at $53.08 while May Brent crude was up $0.02 at $55.88. Soybeans at the Dalian Exchange were mostly steady and Malaysian palm oil futures are down 0.7%.
