US Natural Gas Inventories

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. (DTN) -- The Energy Information Administration Thursday reported natural gas held in U.S. storage increased about 48 Bcf in the week-ended Aug. 17 to 2,435 Bcf.

As of Aug. 17, domestic stocks of working gas were down 684 Bcf or 21.9% from the same time in 2017 and 599 Bcf or 19.7% below the five-year average of 3,034 Bcf.

The 48 Bcf injection in the week-ended Aug. 17 compares with a 45 Bcf stock build in the same week last year and a five-year average increase of 52 Bcf.

EIA data shows East Region natural gas inventories increased 21 Bcf in the week-ended Aug. 17 to 613 Bcf, which was down 111 Bcf or 15.3% from the year-ago level and 103 Bcf or 14.4% below the five-year average of 716 Bcf.

Working gas in the South Central region fell 3 Bcf during the week to 798 Bcf while Midwest stocks climbed 29 Bcf to 632 Bcf. Versus five-year average levels, South Central region inventories were down 227 Bcf or 21.1% while Midwest region stocks were down 154 Bcf or 19.6%.

EIA data shows natural gas stocks in the Pacific region decreased 1 Bcf during the week to 239 Bcf while supplies in the Mountain Region increased 2 Bcf to 153 Bcf.

Compared to five-year average levels, Pacific region stocks were down 82 Bcf or 25.5% and Mountain Region stocks were down 33 Bcf or 17.7%.
