White wheat remained near three-year highs, supported by steady export demand. Bids structures remaind mostly flat for white wheat and hard red winter and exporters reflect a need for spot movement into Portland. Weekly Sales...Export demand for U.S. wheat took a step back from the strong pace of the prior week, coming in slightly below the 4-week average at 16 mb. Year-to-date export commitments for wheat stand at 415 mb, which is 16% behind a year ago and 20% below the five-year average pace. Coming in as top seller for the week was hard red winter with 5.6 mb, followed by another solid week for white wheat at 4.7 mb. That class of wheat has now booked 106 mb; 10% behind a year ago but 21% ahead of average. Red spring wheat booked 2.9 mb and is 7% behind a year ago, while soft red winter saw 2 mb in sales and sets 6% above this time last year. Top Buyers..Hard red winter sales benefitted from interst out of Brazil, which topped all buyers for the week with 3.3 mb. Saudi Arabia followed at 2.4 mb, Nigeria bought 2 mb of hard white wheat, Iraq purchased 1.9 mb and Japan booked 1.1 mb. -Norm Ruhoff Contributing Analyst Copyright 2018 DTN/Telvent.
