Crop Progress...Late plantings across the Pacific Northwest have the winter wheat crop off to a slower start, as the first official assessment of conditions shows lower ratings compared to a year ago. The three state winter wheat index rates the PNW crop at 372 compared to 387 a year ago, with 400 being "Good". In terms of the good to excellent category, the Washington crop shows the most notable decline, setting at 73% compared to 85% at this time last year. Shipments..Weekly export inspections showed movement of U.S. wheat was on par with the prior week at 14.4 mb. Year-to-date shipments now stand at 316 mb which is 23% below a year ago. Both hard red winter and spring wheat registered 3.9 mb for the week, followed by white wheat with 3.7 mb for the week. Top destination by far was Japan with 3.8 mb, followed by South Korea with 1.9 mb, Guatemala 1.8 mb and the Philippines at 1.6 mb. -Norm Ruhoff Contributing Analyst Copyright 2018 DTN/Telvent.
